Wisłok beats Potężnie Ciechocinek in final-round opener

The final, 14th round of the Polish Boxing League began in Rzeszów on Friday evening. Local side RKB Wisłok 1995 beat CKB Potężnie Ciechocinek 10-8, avenging a defeat by the same score in the opening round.

Several months ago, with the score tied at 8-8, a win by Paweł Wardyn (+90 kg) secured two points for the Ciechocinek team. This time, the contest unfolded differently. Wisłok led 4-0, then 8-2, and 10-4 after the sixth bout. At 85 kg, Sebastian Kusz beat Filip Mazurkiewicz on points.

Earlier wins for the home side came from Tymoteusz Jakubowski (55 kg), Michał Akoto-Ampaw (60 kg), Viacheslav Bulakovsky (70 kg) and Dmytro Kulya (75 kg). Jakubowski beat Dominik Stasiak for the second time in the league. Akoto-Ampaw recorded his 10th league win against four defeats.

For the visitors, Alan Smerczak scored at 65 kg and Fabian Urbański at 80 kg. Urbański is the reigning European junior champion and a former world cadet champion.

Paris Olympian Mateusz Bereźnicki (90 kg, 8-0 record) and Wardyn (+90 kg, 10-3) reduced Potężnie’s margin of defeat. They beat Polish Boxing League debutants Szymon Filipiuk and Karol Krawczyk, respectively. Both bouts ended in the first round.

The boxers from Ciechocinek finish the season in sixth place, with the Rzeszów team in seventh.

On Saturday, December 20, Golden Team Nowy Sącz will face WKB Rushh Kielce in Kielce. Matches between Pomorzanin Boxing Team Toruń and Concordia Knurów, and between Imperium Boxing Wałbrzych and KB Legia Warszawa, are scheduled for Sunday, December 21.

KB Legia Warszawa leads the standings with 20 points (158 bout points). Next are WKB Rushh Kielce with 18 (142), Imperium Boxing Wałbrzych with 18 (124) and Pomorzanin Boxing Team Toruń with 16 (124). Those teams are competing for medal places. Concordia Knurów is fifth with 14 points (120).
