Pomorzanin beat Rushh to close the league’s spring round
Pomorzanin Boxing Team Toruń defeated KKB Rushh Kielce 12-6 in the opening match of the Polish Boxing League’s seventh round, the last of the spring season.
The Toruń side recorded their fourth win of the season. They also have two losses and a derby match against CKB Potężnie Ciechocinek still to play. Friday’s win put them level on points with third-placed Imperium Boxing Wałbrzych. Both teams have eight points.
The Kielce side suffered their second defeat of the season and remain on ten points. Their previous loss came against league leaders KB Legia Warszawa. This evening, Legia will face the winless Golden Team in Nowy Sącz.
The result was settled after the sixth bout. At 80 kg, Jakub Maścianica defeated Damian Cieślik on points, putting the hosts 10-2 ahead.
In the preceding bout, at 75 kg, Maks Sakhnenko beat Łukasz Pomorski. A clash of heads in the first round left the Kielce boxer with a deep cut on his forehead, and the referee stopped the fight.
The hosts also earned points through Olivier Rogiewicz at 55 kg, Serhii Sydorenko at 60 kg, Filip Wąchała at 70 kg and Łukasz Szmajda at +90 kg. Szmajda sealed the Toruń side’s victory in emphatic fashion. He knocked down Jakub Domurad in the opening exchange, and the Kielce corner threw in the towel. The bout officially lasted just 14 seconds.
The 90 kg bout also ended early. Pomorzanin’s Jonas Jazevicius was ahead on points, but Ashot Kocharian capitalised on a mistake in the third round to win by referee stoppage.
The match delivered plenty of drama and momentum shifts. Besides this evening’s contest in Nowy Sącz, CKB Potężnie Ciechocinek will face Imperium Boxing Wałbrzych on Saturday. On Sunday, RKB Wisłok 1995 Rzeszów will meet Concordia Knurów.
