From 8-0 to 8-8: Wisłok settle the match in the final bout

After three 8-10 defeats, the boxers of RKB Wisłok 1995 Rzeszów claimed their first victory. On Friday evening, they beat Golden Team Nowy Sącz 10-8 away from home in the opening match of round four of the Polish Boxing League.

The season is gathering pace, with more excitement to come. Five of the 11 matches so far have finished 10-8 or 8-10.

The revived league had not yet seen a match unfold quite like this. The visitors from Rzeszów won the first four bouts. They led 8-0 and looked set for a comfortable victory.

Golden Team, however, had no intention of giving up the fight for their first points. The hosts won the next four bouts to level the score at 8-8.

The result came down to the ninth bout, at over 90 kg, between Michał Bołoz and league debutant Dominik Taraszka. It was even after two rounds. In the third, Bołoz received a standing count and his second warning. Taraszka won, securing two points for Wisłok.

For the Rzeszów side, Tymoteusz Jakubowski (3-1 this season) won at 55 kg, Michał Akoto-Ampaw (3-1) at 60 kg and Jakub Pałka (4-0) at 65 kg. They are key members of the team. Oliwier Szot extended the lead to 8-0 at 70 kg.

Golden Team's boxers then took over: Konrad Gołuzd (1-1) won at 75 kg, Szymon Krzywiecki (1-1) at 80 kg, Wiktor Skiba (3-0) at 85 kg and Krzysztof Twardowski (1-1) at 90 kg. Skiba's opponent, Krystian Kopeć, entered their bout with a 3-0 record.

RKB Wisłok 1995 had the final say. Golden Team also deserve credit, though, having previously lost 2-16 to both KKB Rushh Kielce and CKB Potężnie Ciechocinek.
