The final round-of-16 bouts at the 44th European Senior Boxing Championships have ended in Yerevan. Three Polish boxers, including two of coaches Wojciech Bartnik and Ireneusz Przywara’s key aces – Damian Durkacz (67 kg) and Mateusz Bereźnicki (92 kg) – fought for places in the quarterfinals. They did not disappoint, although only the former secured a victory. Durkacz defeated Italy’s Giacomo Micheli on points (5-0). Bereźnicki, after a very evenly matched bout, was declared the loser (2-3) against England’s Lewis Williams. Oskar Safaryan (+92 kg) also faced an English boxer. Unfortunately, he lost unanimously (0-5) to Delelicious Orie.

Four of our boxers will fight for European Championship medals in Yerevan tomorrow: Jakub Słomiński (48 kg) against Turkey’s Netehan Adiguzel, Paweł Brach (57 kg) against Italy’s Michele Baldassim, Damian Durkacz (67 kg) against Moldova’s Alexander Paraschiv, and Tomasz Niedźwiecki (86 kg) against Montenegro’s Petar Lijesevic.
