Durkacz defeats Armenian opponent to advance to the round of 16 at the World Championships

In the second session of today’s round-of-32 bouts at the 21st Senior World Boxing Championships, Damian Durkacz (67 kg), a competitor at this year’s Olympics, defeated Armenia’s Gurgen Madoyan by a split points decision (4-1). In his quarterfinal bout, the Pole will face southpaw Kazakh Ablaikhan Zhussupov.
The other Pole competing on the tournament’s third day, Paweł Brach (57 kg), was less fortunate. He lost 2-3 to Turkey’s Nurettin Ovat. The bout ended in the second round due to the opponent’s injury, so the judges scored only two rounds. Our boxer won the first, but the Turkish fighter was deemed narrowly better on the cards after the next round.
Tomorrow, Mateusz Bereźnicki (92 kg) will contest his first bout of the tournament against Kazakhstan’s Aibek Oralbay. The following day, Daniel Adamiec (80 kg) will enter the ring. His opponent will be Hungary’s Pal Kovacs. Hopefully, both will join Sebastian Wiktorzak (86 kg) and Damian Durkacz (67 kg).
