Polish women boxers took two of their three chances to reach the medal rounds at the Youth World Championships in Kielce. Natalia Kuczewska (48 kg) and Oliwia Toborek (+81 kg) advanced to the semifinals. After a hurricane-like attack, Kuczewska unanimously won on points, 5-0, against Susma Tamang of Nepal. Toborek consistently built her advantage with her jab and, in the judges’ view, defeated the familiar Russian Tatiana Bogdanova 3-2. A year ago, the Pole lost to her in Budva in a bout for a medal at the European Youth Championships.

Julia Szeremeta (57 kg), meanwhile, has said goodbye to the tournament. The Pole fought ambitiously against the fast and agile Frenchwoman Sthelyne Grosy, and the bout was even for a long time. After the fight, however, four of the five judges indicated that her opponent had the edge. Szeremeta therefore finishes the tournament among the world’s top eight.

The medal tally of the fighters coached by Tomasz Dylak, Adam Spiecha and Kamil Gorzą currently stands at three. The final number of medals will be decided after tomorrow’s quarterfinals. Five more Polish representatives will compete in them.

Natalia Kuczewska’s semifinal opponent will be Thailand’s Thipsatcha Yodwaree. Oliwia Toborek will face India’s Alfiya Pathan. Martyna Jancelewicz (81 kg) also learned the identity of her opponent; she is the only Polish fighter yet to box in Kielce. In the bout for a place in the final, the Pole will face Turkey’s Busra Isildar.
