Eight Poles to fight for Olympic qualification in London

Senior national team coach, Ivan Yushchenko, has selected eight boxers who will compete for Olympic qualification for Tokyo (2020) in London next week. There was no shortage of material to assess. Since January, the team had worked hard at training camps in both Ukraine and Poland. The Poles also competed at the MTB Strandja tournament in Sofia. Ultimately, key decisions were made yesterday at the particularly important venue for Polish boxing, COS OPO “Cetniewo” in Władysławowo.
From March 14–24, the following boxers will compete at London’s Copper Box Arena: Jakub Słomiński (KS Wda Świecie, 52 kg), Maciej Jóźwik (BKS Skorpion Szczecin, 57 kg), Damian Durkacz (BKS Concordia Knurów, 63 kg), Mateusz Polski (KB Karlino, 69 kg), Ryszard Lewicki (BKS Skorpion Szczecin, 75 kg), Sebastian Wiktorzak (BKS Skorpion Szczecin, 81 kg), Mateusz Masternak (RUSHH Kielce, 91 kg), and Adam Kulik (KS Stara Szkoła Boksu Lublin, +91 kg).
Two of the selected boxers have already competed in Olympic qualifying tournaments. Mateusz Polski took part in the event in Trabzon, where qualification for the 2012 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro was at stake, as well as in Baku, during the qualifiers for the 2016 Rio Olympics. Maciej Jóźwik, meanwhile, fought four years ago in Samsun, also in an Olympic qualifying tournament for the Rio de Janeiro Games.
