Poland Defeated Russia. A Valuable Test Ahead of the Qualifiers

Poland, coached by Ivan Yushchenko, defeated Russia 12-6 in Gliwice yesterday. The White and Reds thus avenged the 4-14 defeat they suffered in Kielce a year ago. Although the visitors did not come with the line-up known from the most important international competitions on either occasion, the bout was nevertheless a valuable test for Poland, three months before the qualifiers for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. Russia will not compete in that tournament.
Poland’s points were scored by Radomir Obruśniak (57 kg), Mateusz Polski and Damian Durkacz (both 63 kg), Daniel Adamiec (75 kg), Mateusz Masternak (91 kg) and Aleksander Stawirej (+91 kg). The return to the international ring of Polish champion and former EBU professional European champion Mateusz Masternak deserves special attention. It is also worth noting Radomir Obruśniak’s move down to the Olympic featherweight limit of 57 kg.
