Durkacz Reaches Strandja Tournament Semifinals, Wąchała Eliminated

Poland’s two representatives, Damian Durkacz (64 kg) and Filip Wąchała (69 kg), had mixed fortunes in the quarterfinals of the 70th MTB “Strandja” Tournament in Sofia. Both, however, can be satisfied with their performances in the ring. The boxer from Knurów, coached by national team trainer Ireneusz Przywara, took another step forward in his career. He unanimously defeated Italy’s Paolo Di Lernia 5-0 on points. Di Lernia was the 2018 European Union Championships runner-up in Valladolid. Meanwhile, the SAKO Gdańsk fighter put on a tough, entertaining and at times very even bout, but lost 0-5 to American Delante Johnson.
Damian Durkacz is therefore the only Polish boxer remaining in the men’s competition in Sofia. Tomorrow, he will face last year’s Russian champion, Alexey Mazur, who defeated Ukraine’s Yaroslav Khartsiz on points today.
