Two young Polish representatives, Damian Durkacz (64 kg) and Filip Wąchała (69 kg), advanced to the quarterfinals of the 70th „Strandja” Tournament in Sofia. Durkacz defeated Turkey’s Volkan Gokcek by unanimous decision, 5-0. Wąchała also won, though by a split decision, 3-2, against the host nation’s representative, Petar Draganov. The third Pole, Michał Soczyński (91 kg), will return home empty-handed. He lost on points, 0-5, to India’s Namar Tanwar, a former bronze medalist at the Youth World Championships.

Tomorrow, a place in the semifinals will be at stake. Durkacz will face Italy’s Paolo Di Lernia, last year’s European Union silver medalist. Wąchała will meet American Delante Johnson, the 2016 Youth World Champion at lightweight (60 kg).
