The White and Reds demolished Fenerbahce Istanbul 22-0

While the 11th edition of the Women’s European Boxing Championships in history was being held in Sofia, Poland’s senior team thrashed their visitors from Turkey in Kielce. The Fenerbahce Istanbul boxers lost 0-22. The most valuable victories were secured by Jarosław Iwanow (56 kg) and Bartosz Gołębiewski (75 kg – pictured). The Poles proved superior to two of the Bosphorus country’s recent leading fighters, 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympians Selcuk Eker and Onder Sipal. Damian Durkacz (64 kg) also enjoyed another valuable senior outing, defeating Volkan Gokcek, a bronze medalist at last year’s European Under-22 Championships.
Given the quality of the opponents the Poles have been facing recently, promoting the White and Reds’ international matches as the World Confrontation of Olympic Boxing sounds somewhat grotesque. Once again, a team arrived in Poland that merely “imitated” the senior national team’s first-choice lineup.
Besides the aforementioned trio, the medalists at the Turkish Under-22 Championships are: Utku Erdogan (75 kg, champion), Genckan Yagmur (81 kg, champion – he competed at a higher weight limit in Kielce), Ahmet Cikot (60 kg, silver medalist), Ramazan Ozbagdanli (48 kg, bronze medalist) and Adem Furkan Avci (69 kg, bronze medalist).
