Test Match in Słupsk: Poland and Sweden with New Faces

Swedish champion Adolphe Sylva (69 kg) and national runners-up Emil Harrysson (64 kg) and Adam Chartoi (75 kg) are, on paper, the strongest members of the Swedish team. Today in Słupsk, they will face Poland in an international match. However, Poland coach Karol Chabros will opt for an experimental lineup. His team includes last year’s best Polish youth boxers: Damian Durkacz (64 kg) and Eryk Apresyan (69 kg). The latter represents local club Czarni on a daily basis. The squad also includes Natan Konszewicz (69 kg) and Tomasz Niedźwiecki (91 kg), who is returning to international boxing.
Considering the matchups and the boxers’ achievements to date, this promises to be a typical test match. The most interesting bouts should see Apresyan take on this year’s Nordic Countries champion and Swedish national gold medalist Sylva, Bartosz Gołębiewski face Chartoi, and Adrian Kowal (60 kg) meet Biniam Tesfagabr. The Swede was the national runner-up in 2016. Jakub Kasprzak (81 kg) also faces a tough challenge, as he will be tested by Oslo Nordic Countries runner-up Liridon Nuha.
Organizers told the local press that fans in Słupsk can expect more than just competition between the two national teams’ boxers. Former Czarni stars will also be in attendance, including Czesław Dawiec, Edward Misiak, Dariusz Michalczewski and Jan Dydak.
