Today, the quarterfinals of the 27th European Youth Boxing Championships were held in Antalya. Three representatives of Poland were scheduled to compete: Mateusz Wojtasiński (52 kg), Damian Durkacz (60 kg) and Konrad Kaczmarkiewicz (81 kg). Ultimately, two of them entered the ring. Both Mateusz and Konrad lost their bouts. Durkacz, meanwhile, advanced by walkover because his opponent, Italy’s Christian Gasparri, suffered an injury.

Wojtasiński, making his debut in the Turkish ring, lost by unanimous decision, 0-5, to Bulgaria’s Boyan Panev Asenov. He is the brother of Daniel Asenov, who is well known on the international boxing scene. Kaczmarkiewicz, in turn, lost 0-5 by unanimous decision to Azerbaijan’s Surat Galiyev.

Durkacz will fight for a place in the final on Friday. His opponent will be Ukraine’s Taras Bondarchuk, who defeated England’s Charles Frankham on points in the quarterfinals. His first medal is therefore already guaranteed. Dominik Harwankowski (56 kg) still has a chance to win a second one, as he will fight tomorrow for a place in the medal rounds.
