The second day of the 10th World Junior Championships in St Petersburg brought no good news for the Polish team. A total of 386 boxers from 46 countries are competing in the tournament. The Polish team is led by coaches Stanisław Łakomiec and Jerzy Baraniecki.

Only one Pole entered the ring yesterday. Oskar Safaryan (+80 kg) was knocked out by China’s Manseur Maimaiti at 1:34 of the first round. Today, Piotr Szczukowski (63 kg) and Mateusz Ramotowski (70 kg) also said goodbye to the tournament. Szczukowski lost by TKO in the second round to Morocco’s Tarik Zaatout, while Ramotowski was unanimously beaten on points by Turkey’s Bayram Malkan. The judges scored the bout 30-27, 30-27 and 30-26.

Three Polish representatives remain in the competition: Damian Durkacz (54 kg), Konrad Białas (60 kg) and Eryk Apresyan (66 kg). Durkacz will face New Zealander Logan Hill, Białas will meet Turkey’s Turgulhan Erdemir, while Apresyan will take on England’s Billy Scott.
