Not long ago, Tomasz Adamek was fighting on the political stage. Without success, as he failed to win a seat in the European Parliament. Now he is thinking about boxing again. The former world champion in two weight classes and challenger in a third announced in „Przegląd Sportowy” that he will return to the ring on October 18 in Poland.

- Apparently, serious talks have already begun about a rematch with Chris Arreola. Is that true?
Tomasz Adamek: I know there is supposed to be a fight in Poland, but I cannot say much. It concerns October 18 and a Polsat show. I was offered a spot in the evening's main event, but there was no mention of Chris Arreola.

- Will the Polsat show take place in Łódź?
TA: That is what I have heard. It is about putting on a good show and making people want to watch it. I would like to have someone who does not run away as my opponent, but fights.

- You are avoiding names, but Arreola seems like a really good idea.
TA: It makes no difference to me. I simply want to give people a good show. Something they will remember and talk about for a long time.

- Another candidate I have heard about is Ray Austin, Andrzej Gołota's former opponent.
TA: I really have nothing to say about potential opponents because I know nothing about it. The only information I have is that Polsat is interested.

- There was also a report that you might fight David Haye.
TA: I read about that too. It would certainly be a great show. There are many Poles living in England, so a lot of people would probably come, including my fans. However, there has been no such offer, so there is nothing to discuss at the moment. Right now, the date of my return is October 18, and that is what I am focusing on. I would fly to Poland in mid-August to prepare here.

- Have you already recovered from your political adventure?
TA: What is there to recover from? I travelled a lot, mainly around Silesia, and saw how much poverty there is and how many problems people face. It was a powerful experience. Today I know what Poland looks like. It is not just Warsaw or Kraków with their major investments. People live modestly, often in poverty.

- Did politics turn out to be a more brutal field than sport?
TA: Why? I was not part of any establishment. I was simply a sportsman who wanted to help. I ran for the European Parliament on the Solidarna Polska party list, although I am not a member of that party.

- Today, one of Solidarna Polska's leaders, Jacek Kurski, does not speak very favorably about you, although things were different during the campaign.
TA: Jacek Kurski is looking for a scapegoat, even though the responsibility lies with him. For five years he made a lot of noise around himself on various issues, while a politician should be like an athlete—clean. That is when people can trust him. He failed to achieve that, since I received more votes than he did… And I did not have television advertisements or billboards. I simply talked to people. I regret nothing, including what I said. I told the truth. Everyone who knows me knows that I do not lie. I do not know whether I will return to politics. Right now, I want to fight.

- How much longer?
TA: If I keep winning, I will stay in boxing. Otherwise, it may turn out that I should no longer enter the ring. For now, I feel great. I have rested, regenerated, I run, and everything is fine. I will be ready to compete on October 18 in Poland.
