“Master” to box in Denmark again. More serious fight possible in the summer

On April 12 in Esbjerg, Denmark, former European cruiserweight champion Mateusz Masternak is scheduled to fight his 33rd professional bout. The 26-year-old from Wrocław is preparing for the fight in Dzierżoniów. He is training under the guidance of Piotr Wilczewski, who was in his corner a month ago for his fourth-round knockout victory over Sandro Siproshvili. It was “Master’s” first appearance since his October defeat by Grigory Drozd and loss of the EBU title.
“I’m 99 percent certain I’ll fight in Denmark on April 12. I’d like my opponent to be better than Siproshvili: tougher, faster, more dynamic and more willing to take risks. For now, I don’t know whether I’m in for a difficult challenge. I have been told, however, that this time the bout will be scheduled for ten rounds,” Masternak says.
Recently, reports emerged that the boxer would prepare for his next appearance alongside Wilczewski in the United States. There was also a possibility that he would fight in April across the Atlantic. Ultimately, that plan did not come to fruition.
“It was supposed to be a really serious challenge. However, I don’t want to count my chickens before they hatch. Perhaps the subject will become relevant again in some time and the fight will take place in Europe in the summer. In that case, training in the United States obviously would not be possible. I am nevertheless very grateful to Mariusz Kołodziej, head of the Global Boxing promotional group, for making the offer,” says the fighter signed to the Sauerland Event stable.
Masternak should have no shortage of motivation to work hard. At the end of February, he became a father for the second time. A year and a half after the birth of Mikołaj, his wife Daria gave birth to their second son.
