Hussars Poland Is Looking for a Coach. There Are Several Candidates

Belarusian Valery Kornilov, recently appointed coach of Poland’s Olympic team, is among the candidates to take charge of Hussars Poland. The club’s head, Jarosław Kołkowski, is looking for a successor to Hubert Migaczew. The current coach will end his cooperation with the team after Saturday’s match against Astana Arlans Kazakhstan. In the past, there have already been instances of a coach combining work in the World Series of Boxing with leading the national team.

According to unofficial information, in the coming days—before the Polish Championships begin in Kalisz on March 10—a meeting is expected to take place between the Hussars Poland management, representatives of the PBA and Valery Kornilov.

Hussars Poland have already drawn up an action plan for the next season, 2014–2015. Funding for the team has been secured with the support of sponsors. Combining the WSB league with Poland’s national team could bring many benefits to Polish boxing.

Previously, Hubert Migaczew coached Hussars Poland and the Polish national team simultaneously. However, this arrangement did not appeal to the authorities of the Polish Boxing Association. After last year’s European Championships in Minsk, the association parted ways with the coach, and Ludwik Buczyński took his place.

Valery Kornilov has recently become the national team’s head coach. In his new role, he must deal with organizational problems. Some of the boxers work day-to-day to support their families. For this reason, they cannot always attend training camps.

More than 20 boxers with Hussars Poland train permanently at the Torwar arena. The athletes live in a rented house in Ursynów, receive scholarships and can focus exclusively on sport. This training model could certainly appeal to the Belarusian coach.

Will Poland’s national team and Hussars Poland be combined this time? We will find out soon. The club’s management is also preparing an alternative option. Talks are being held with other coaches in parallel. Among those mentioned are respected professional boxing coach Andrzej Gmitruk and current coach of the women’s youth team Tomasz Różański.
