A Major Boxing Celebration at Wisła Hall. The 33rd Edition of the Tournament Is Coming

From November 28 to 30, Wisła Hall Kraków at 22 Reymonta Street will once again become an international boxing arena. The venue will host the 33rd International “Wisła Golden Glove” Boxing Tournament. This year’s edition will be a special one, as the club’s boxing section is celebrating its 80th anniversary.
All indications are that the tournament will feature a very strong lineup. For many weeks, it has been assembled by Czesław Meus, president of the Lesser Poland Boxing Association, long-time Wisła official, and president of the club’s boxing section. In addition to representatives of Poland, boxers from France, the Netherlands, Germany, Ukraine and Northern Ireland will appear in Kraków. The German team will come from Amateur Box Club Homberg, while the Ukrainian squad will travel from Kharkiv.
Northern Ireland’s team will include, among others, Tyrone McCullough, a bronze medalist at the 2010 European Featherweight Championships in Moscow. Damien Ramsey, winner of last year’s “Wisła Golden Glove” Tournament, will also compete. The lineup is completed by national champions Dylan Duffy and Connor Burns. Cadet James McGivern, a 2012 European champion, will also appear in the Kraków ring.
Germany’s Amateur Box Club Homberg has entered Sahan Aybay, last year’s German youth lightweight champion. In 2012 and 2013, the boxer also won gold medals at the North Rhine-Westphalia Championships. A key member of the German team is expected to be Andreas Hermann, the 2011 German youth middleweight runner-up and a bronze medalist at the 2012 national championships. Hermann is also the North Rhine-Westphalia champion for 2012 and 2013.
Artur Gerzen, champion of the aforementioned region in the up-to-81-kilogram category, should also provide some interesting boxing. The German fighter is already known to Polish fans, having previously competed in tournaments in Myszków and Bytom.
Mirosław Malinowski, King of the Fowler Brotherhood, has assumed honorary patronage of the event. The tournament’s sporting patron will be professional WBC world cruiserweight champion Krzysztof “Diablo” Włodarczyk. The competition will be held in an open format, with no entry fees. The event will carry the slogan: “Boxing Against Drunkenness and Drug Addiction.”
